Assistance Eligibility

IFM’s mission is to provide short-term assistance to individuals and families in need. IFM lends a hand to assist your family through a crisis due to sudden unemployment, unexpected medical expenses, or other issues.

If you live in our service area, meet income requirements*, have a documented crisis**, and are able to submit required documents - You may be eligible to receive assistance.

*Most programs require that clients are 80% or below the Average Median Income for the DFW area.

**A documented crisis is a situation that came about unexpectedly and can be documented. This crisis created an immediate need and was not caused by the conduct of the individual.


Our Service Area

For help with Denton Municipal Utilities - Our service area is for all Denton Municipal Utilities customers.

For help with diapers, prescription, transportation, Atmos, and TXU - Our service area includes Denton, Sanger, Krum, Ponder, Corinth, Lake Dallas, Aubrey, Cross Roads, Oak Point, Shady Shores, Krugerville, Little Elm, Paloma Creek, and Providence Village.


Utility Assistance

We do not have funds available for all utility providers. We are only able to offer assistance with the following utility providers at this time:

  • Denton Municipal Electric (City of Denton)

  • Atmos

  • TXU

Unfortunately, we do not have funds available to assist with CoServ. If you need assistance with CoServ, please contact the Texoma Council of Governments at (903)-893-2161 ext. 3541


Documentation Needed for Utility Assistance

In order to qualify for assistance, you will need to provide documentation proving loss of income or unexpected expenses in your name that has created this short-term crisis.

  • Identification

    • Driver's License, Texas State Issued ID, Matricula Consular, or Passport for all adult household members 

    • Social Security or ITIN numbers of all household members including children

  • Income

    • Verification of all sources of income or benefits

      • Pay Stubs, Food Stamp award letter, SSI, SSDI, or Social Security Retirement award letter, Verification of any other retirement income, Verification of Housing Assistance, Veteran Benefits, , Unemployment benefits, child support summary, Student Financial Aid award letter

  • Housing Expenses

    • First Page of Lease or Mortgage

    • If Section 8 (Housing Voucher) - Housing Contract 

  • Crisis Documentation 

    • Examples: Notice of Layoff/Termination from Employer, Auto Repair Receipts, Medical Receipts, etc.
