Summer is winding down, but there is still plenty of fun to be had in Denton. Check out this month’s list of exciting and FREE events, and let us know which ones you plan to attend!

 

Pale Blue Dot

When: Friday August 8 at 8 p.m.

Where: Denton City Hall: 215 East McKinney Street

So What? Pale Blue Dot, a dance performance in City Hall’s courtyard, showcases unconventional uses of public space by bringing dance out of the theater and into the great outdoors. Set to original work by local musician Brittany Padilla, who will be performing live with the dancers, this event is a fun exploration in relating dance to architecture and nature.

American Brides: Inspiration and Ingenuity

When: Tuesday through Saturday until October 24 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Patterson-Appleton Center for Visual Arts

So What? The exhibit features numerous dresses inspired by different periods of bridal fashion. On display will be authentic wedding dresses ranging from the Romantic, Victorian, Prohibition, Civil War eras, plus the Baby Boomer generation. 

Unicorn Lake Summer Concert Series

When: Thursday August 14, August 21 and August 28 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Where: Unicorn Lake: 2900 Wind River Lane

So What? Come on by Unicorn Lake for their summer concert series with DentonRadio.com Bring a chair and enjoy some Denton-style music & fun for the whole family! Featured artists are listed below:

Denton County Farmers’ Market

When: Weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to sellout

Where: Bayless-Selby House Museum Parking Lot: 317 West Mulberry Street

So What? Stop by and check out the selection of fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables grown by local farmers.

Denton Community Market

When: Every Saturday in August from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Historical Park of Denton County: 317 West Mulberry Street

So What? The Denton Community Market is an artist’s and farmer’s market that launched in April of 2010. The market features locally grown food, live music and activities for children. Visitors can also browse handmade items such as purses, jewelry and clothing that are for sale.

Denton Drum Circle

When: Every Saturday in August from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Where: Courthouse-on-the-Square: 110 West Hickory Street

So What? People are invited to come out and enjoy the music and culture of Denton at this family-friendly event featuring hand drumming.

Salsa Dancing

When: Every Tuesday from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Where: Mulberry Street Cantina: 110 W. Mulberry Street

So What? Mulberry Street Cantina offers free salsa dancing lessons to anyone interested. The lessons last until 9 p.m. and then there is an open dance floor with a DJ after the class ends.

Wednesday Night Social Run

When: Every Wednesday night at 8 p.m.

Where: Oak Street Draft House: 308 E. Oak Street

So What? The Wednesday Night Social Run is a free 5k group run through Denton. Runners of all levels and abilities are welcome. The group meets at Oak Street Draft House every Wednesday night at 7:45 p.m., and the run starts at 8:00 p.m. Join in on the fun and hang out for some beer and socializing after the run.

 

As you can see, Denton is just as reluctant to let summer end as you are. We hope you take advantage of these opportunities to get out and enjoy all the city has to offer!
