June Happenings

Summer is officially here, and what better way to celebrate than getting out and enjoying some of the many events Denton has to offer this month! We here at Interfaith appreciate a good bargain, so as always; all of the events we have compiled are completely FREE.

Denton Juneteenth 2014 Festival
When: Friday June 13 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday June 14 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: Fred Moore Park: 501 South Bradshaw Street
So What? The 44th Annual Denton Juneteenth Celebration is put on by the Denton Juneteenth Celebration Committee, a nonprofit volunteer group whose mission is to actively preserve and promote the broad spectrum of African American heritage through educational and cultural activities that benefit the Denton community. The 44th annual celebration leads off with a mayoral proclamation. Events include: a live band, softball tournament, parade, basketball tournaments, barbecue cook-off, and games for the entire family.

Twilight Tunes
When: Every Thursday in June from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Courthouse-on-the-Square: 110 West Hickory Street
So What? Sponsored by the Denton Main Street Association, this award-winning concert series takes place every Thursday from the end of April to the beginning of July.  Listeners are encouraged to bring their own meal and a blanket or chairs, and enjoy an evening of great live music as the sun sets over downtown Denton.  The 2014 series offers an eclectic assortment of music for all listeners. Below is a list of this month’s artists and their genres.
June 5: Kerry Davis Jr. Band, Country
June 12: Chris Watson, Southern Soul
June 19: Gravity Feed, Jazz/Funk/Pop
June 26: Bonnie & Nick Norris Band, Country/Acoustic/Multi-Styles

Denton County Farmers’ Market
When: Weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to sellout
Where: Bayless-Selby House Museum Parking Lot: 317 West Mulberry Street
So What? Stop by and check out the selection of fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables grown by local farmers.

Denton Community Market
When: Every Saturday in June from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Historical Park of Denton County: 317 West Mulberry Street
So What? The Denton Community Market is an artist’s and farmer’s market that launched in April of 2010. The market features locally grown food, live music and activities for children. Visitors can also browse handmade items such as purses, jewelry and clothing that are for sale.

Denton Drum Circle
When: Every Saturday in June from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Where: Courthouse-on-the-Square: 110 West Hickory Street
So What? People are invited to come out and enjoy the music and culture of Denton at this family-friendly event featuring hand drumming.

Concerts on the Square
When: Every Wednesday in June (except for June 11) from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Downtown Courthouse Square: 110 West Hickory Street
So What? Come out and enjoy some music during you lunch hour. Visitors are encouraged to bring their lunch and have a picnic on the Courthouse lawn. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Denton Civic Center. Artists for this month are listed below.

Friday Night Starrise
When: Every Friday in June at 8:15
Where: Denton Civic Center: 321 East McKinney St.
So What? The Friday Night Starrise series, sponsored Denton Parks and Recreation allows community members to escape the heat and watch performances by local talent. Artists for this month are listed below:

DentonRadio.com Summer Concert Series
When: Every Saturday in June from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Golden Triangle Mall Food Court: 2201 South I-35E
So What? This Summer Concert Series sponsored by DentonRadio.com will give community members an opportunity to hear various local artists throughout the month of June. Artists for this month are listed below:

June 28: 11:40

Movies in the Park After Dark
When: Thursday June 19 and June 26 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: Quakertown Park: 321 East McKinney Street
So What? Experience an outdoor movie with family and friends. An open-fire marshmallow roast and children’s crafts start at 8 p.m. The movie will start at 9 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. Low-priced concessions and glow sticks will be sold. The June 19 movie is “The Nut Job” and the June 26 movie is “The Lego Movie” (subject to change).

As you can see, this month is jam-packed with events for all ages. So slip on those shades, round up your friends and family, and enjoy just a taste of what our incredible city has to offer.
