Interfaith
Ministries of Denton, Inc. (Interfaith Ministries) had its beginning in 1991 when several area churches decided to come together
to provide multiple services under one roof, preferably in a central (downtown) location. Local churches
and civic agencies were being inundated with requests not only for food and clothing, but also for financial assistance for
rent, utilities, medications, and various other individual needs. Interfaith was officially chartered by the State of Texas
and given 501 (c) (3) status in October of 1992.
The need for a centralized service
agency such as Interfaith Ministries was increased after the closings of the following:
· Denton County Cooperative Ministries
in 1998, emergency financial assistance
· TWU Cares Health Care Clinic in 2000, prescription/ pharmaceutical assistance
· HelpNet of the Greater Denton
Area, Inc. in 2003, central screening and referral agency
· St. Vincent de Paul House in 2003, community food pantry
Interfaith Ministries is a United Way partner agency
and collaborates with other partner agencies on grants, referrals, and services. All services are coordinated
with other agencies and organizations in Denton County to prevent, as nearly as possible, duplication of services, and to
maximize and leverage assistance given to individuals.
