The Apple Tree Project at Interfaith Ministries provides school
supplies, clothing, backpacks, and shoes to children from low-income families in the Denton Independent School District. Our
vision is for every child to be able to start off the school year on a competitive level with their peers.
Currently, Denton ISD estimates that 41.2% of enrollment, or 9,908
children, qualify as economically disadvantaged. Supporters of the Apple Tree Project believe that education is the key
to ending cycles of poverty. Our primary goal is to promote success
in education by equipping economically disadvantaged children with the essential items for back-to-school. By equipping children for success in school, we expect to boost children’s motivation, increase
readiness and preparation, and to decrease hardship on low-income families.
On August 20, 2011 we provided over 1,400 children with a complete set
of school supplies, a new backpack, 2 sets of school clothing and a $25 gift card for new shoes. Planning for next year's
Apple Tree Project begins soon- contact us if you or your organization would like to be involved.
